A Welcome

Welcome to Social Animal Theater.

Tonight we open the first play in a plan that will take five years. Kirk Wood Bromley has spent decades writing verse plays that many conventional theaters won't touch: big language, big ideas, big heart-the whole of American history swinging on its hinges. I've worked alongside Kirk for almost thirty years. This company exists because his plays deserve rooms like this one, and actors like the ones you're about to watch.

The American Revolution asks a simple question: whose freedom, and at what cost. It doesn't answer that question so much as it makes you sit inside it for two hours.

Thank you for being here on night one. Thank you to every actor, every donor, every person who said yes to something that didn't exist yet.

This is just the start.

"The beloved bard of downtown theater." — The New Yorker

Kirk Wood Bromley is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary American theatre and the founder of Inverse Theater Company in downtown New York. For more than three decades he has written plays that fuse Shakespearean language, political satire, myth, comedy, and philosophy. Among actors, his plays are famous for one thing: they are exhilarating to perform.

"The struggle we just won has just begun."

Thank You

To SEVEN, for opening your room to us. To every Founding Donor who backed this company before it had a stage to stand on. To the Triangle theater community, for making space for something new.

Social Animal is just beginning. If tonight moved you, we'd love to have you with us for what's next.
